The Security and Emergency Consortium, an agency dependent on the Cabildo of Lanzarote, presented the performance report for 2023 this Monday, in an event attended by the president of the Corporation, Oswaldo Betancort, and the councilor and president of the Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio.
"I want to congratulate the human resources that exist in this Consortium, not only the firefighters but also the administrative staff, who have made it possible to act in more than 1,000 incidents in this last year," said Oswaldo Betancort, who also announced that he will take the situation of the burning of containers to the next Mayors' Table to "join efforts in terms of citizen participation to preserve the state of public furniture."
The president of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio, for his part, thanked "the work of the entire human team of the Consortium." "We are particularly concerned about vehicle and container fires, so we will continue to raise awareness of what this means for public coffers," he explained.
This report shows the more than 1,000 services and their typology, depending on the incident, and in comparison to previous years. "Although it is true that these are similar figures, we must not lower our guard and continue to raise awareness among citizens of the need to prevent any type of incident," said Aparicio. In addition, the number of actions is also divided into each of the seven municipalities, where the comparison of these with previous years is also visible.
World Rescue Challenge, mandatory section of the 2023 Report
The year 2023 also left an indelible mark on the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium: the organization of the World Rescue Challenge 2023, the world championship of extrication and trauma. "For four days, Lanzarote was the epicenter of vehicle extrication worldwide, and we demonstrated that we are capable of carrying out an event of these characteristics," said the president of the Consortium, who also recalled "the good performance of the Lanzarote team in this edition."
In this 2023 Report, it is recalled that there were 31 trauma teams and 37 extrication teams from different parts of the planet that met in Puerto del Carmen in November.
Finally, this document also includes the awareness campaigns that the Security and Emergency Consortium has carried out during the last year, as well as the number of migrants who have arrived on the coasts of Lanzarote and La Graciosa in 2023.
