Lanzarote's wind turbines generated 65,316 megawatts of energy in 2024, a 12% increase compared to the previous year, but still failing to recover the values achieved in 2022, when it reached its historical maximum. This is reflected in the Data Center, based on data from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).

Last year, the island produced 746,880 megawatts of energy through the burning of fossil fuels, solar energy, and wind energy, according to the gross production and domestic demand of energy analyzed by ISTAC. By cross-referencing this data, only 8.7% of the electricity created in Lanzarote comes from wind sources.

Furthermore, the island is consuming more energy than it is capable of producing. Last year alone, domestic demand grew to 889,209 megawatts (1.94%), while gross domestic production decreased (1.23%). This trend is above the regional average, where electricity demand also increased (0.52%), while production decreased (1.44%).

Thus, with figures from 2023, 835,133.51 megawatts were available for consumption. By sector, the hotel industry consumed nearly three out of every ten megawatts of the energy available to consumers. Specifically, 232,845 megawatts. In this sense, the study Fundamentals for Measuring Tourism Sustainability, prepared between the Government of the Canary Islands and the public universities of the archipelago, already warned that the increase in tourists drives up energy demand and accelerates climate change.

Only commerce and public services were ahead, consuming slightly more than three out of every ten megawatts, reaching 265,272 consumed that same year. In third place, households needed just over two out of every ten megawatts available.

Among the four wind farms operating on the island, the one in Arrecife generated 30,931 megawatts of energy, which were added to the 16,371 from the Teguise I park, the 10,288 from Los Valles, and, to a lesser extent, the 7,726 megawatts from the Punta Grande plant.
