The CIFP Zonzamas of Lanzarote has been recognized with a Distinction of Excellence awarded by the Ministry of Education.
A total of ten educational centers of Infant and Primary, Secondary and Vocational Training of the Canary Islands have been distinguished for their innovative character with the Distinctions of Excellence, which the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands delivers for the second consecutive year.
"These awards represent a recognition of the processes of methodological and curricular qualification, the use and good use of technological resources, the organization and conditioning of learning spaces, pedagogical leadership, participatory culture, improvement of coexistence or participation in transformative projects of educational centers", according to the Government of the Canary Islands in a note.
In this edition, the educational department has recognized the CIFP Zonzamas, of Lanzarote; the CEIP Agustín Millares Carló, of Fuerteventura, and Igueste, Juan Cruz Ruiz, María Del Carmen Fernández Melián and Princesa Tejina, of Tenerife. The work of the IES José Frugoni Pérez (La Rocha), Lomo De La Herradura and Pérez Galdós, of Gran Canaria, and San Matías, of Tenerife, has also been distinguished.
The purpose of this initiative is to recognize the innovative capacity developed by educational centers to improve the teaching-learning processes and the elements that affect the organization and operation of teaching practice. In this sense, excellence is conceived as a particularity dependent on various variables and that can only be valued contextually.
These recognitions are mostly proposed by the educational communities of other centers, in addition to different bodies of the Administration itself. The award is provided with an economic endowment of 2,000 euros during each of the school years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 to contribute to the improvement of quality and excellence, and also entails the dissemination of the projects that have obtained it. The delivery of the Distinctions will take place, presumably, on June 9 in the municipality of Arucas, Gran Canaria, in an act with representation of the educational community of the selected educational centers.
