The haze of these days in Lanzarote has allowed the photography enthusiast, Marcial Martín (@chalo19755), to capture with his camera, in the area of Puerto De Naos, a phenomenon known as sunspots and that he has published on his Instagram social network profile. "The haze has something good that allowed me to capture the sunspots this morning," he ironically says. In fact, "the ideal conditions to be able to have a snapshot of this event is the presence of haze during sunrise," explains Martín.
This phenomenon consists of the appearance of dark spots on the surface of the Sun. They also appear due to changes that occur in the magnetic field of this great star. The sizes of the spots vary, as they can be imperceptible to the naked eye or as large as the Earth.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which monitors space weather, has reported that there is a 20% probability that these sunspots may emit flares when they are still facing our planet. These flares are explosions that occur on the surface of the Sun.
That is why they can have consequences in our daily life with problems such as high-frequency radio blackouts and geomagnetic storms. This can damage technological devices and satellites.
