The Minister of Employment and Social Affairs of the Government of the Canary Islands, Marisa Zamora, stated this Tuesday that the attack carried out by 57 immigrants from a dinghy who threw all kinds of objects and Molotov cocktails at the Río Duero patrol boat of the Civil Guard to avoid being intercepted and reach the Canary Islands, "was a product of fear and despair" and "it is an isolated event".
Zamora, who made these statements to journalists, after inaugurating the 'Itinerant Employment Fair' in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, recalled that "people when they come in a dinghy, apart from risking their lives, come with fear, when in reality the Civil Guard is there to protect and help, and Maritime Rescue to try to get them safely to the coast".
The Minister indicated that what happens is that irregular immigrants "sometimes do not know the intentions and this fact, for example, has occurred due to fear", while clarifying that the Ministry "has no official communication of this incident, but what we know is through the press".
Regarding whether this fact may be a precedent for the future, she said no "because all those who have come and continue to come - especially those from sub-Saharan Africa - flee from despair and seek a new life project, so their reactions are of tranquility and that they are welcomed and integrated".
"I believe that this has been an isolated event and a product of fear and despair," she reiterated.
