Two Spanish soldiers were killed and three were injured from the Soria 9 regiment based on the island of Fuerteventura, this Sunday in Afghanistan. The incident occurred when a device exploded as the armored vehicle in which they were traveling 20 kilometers north of the Afghan town of Qala-i-Naw, where they were based, according to the Ministry of Defense.
The deceased are Sergeant Manuel Argudin Perrino and Soldier Niyireth Pineda Marín. The injured, who have already been evacuated by helicopter to the Role 2 hospital in Bala Murghab, are soldier Rubén Velazquez Herrera, who has received several contusions; soldier Jhony Alirio Herrera Trejos, who has suffered fractures in his legs and a probable fracture in one arm; and soldier Roi Villa Souto, with fractures in both legs.
The previous attack with Spanish fatalities occurred on August 26, 2010. At that time, a Taliban killed two officers and an interpreter at the former base of Spanish troops in Qala-i-Naw.
