Stolen sea bass from a Playa Quemada fish farm

The Civil Guard of Yaiza investigated on August 17 two people aged 59 and 35 for a crime of theft, as they were caught in a preventive control with 99 kilos of sea bass from a fish farm located in the Playa Quemada area.

The events occurred during the night of August 7 when the Civil Guard carried out a preventive control in the vicinity of Risco Prieto on a vehicle
coming from the beach that gives access to the marine corrals of Playa Quemada. Once the two passengers were identified, they stated that they came from recreational fishing in the area.

For this reason, the Civil Guard carried out the appropriate checks, inspecting the vehicle and locating inside various vats with sea bass of very similar weight and
size, all without complying with the corresponding hygienic-sanitary conditions.

It so happens that despite transporting a quantity much higher than allowed, they did not have the mandatory administrative license for the
exercise of fishing. In addition, the agents located in the trunk a folded pneumatic boat of about 3 meters and a 4 HP outboard motor with a green net, this being the fishing gear with which they had allegedly captured the sea bass.

Origin of the sea bass

However, due to the quantity and type of the pieces, the Civil Guard initiated the corresponding police investigations to determine the origin of the fish, in case it could come from a fish farm.

Finally, the agents were able to verify that the sea bass had been stolen from marine farms located on the coast of Playa Quemada, which is why these two people were investigated for the alleged authorship of a crime of theft.

The 99 kilograms of fish seized were discarded with the corresponding destruction report as they did not comply with the hygienic-sanitary guarantees for their
donation and possible food use.
