Three of those intoxicated by cannabis after eating paella in an Arrecife bar have already filed a complaint with the National Police, who have now taken charge of the investigation to clarify what happened.

In this regard, it should be remembered that a dozen people had to be evacuated by ambulance to the Molina Orosa Hospital on Saturday after starting to feel unwell shortly after the meal, although only eight of them required medical assistance.

After those affected tested positive for cannabis and stated that they had not voluntarily consumed the drug and that they suspected that it could be in the paella they had ingested, the Local Police acted on Sunday at the premises and sealed off the kitchen. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the drug was in the food that those affected shared.

Even so, a Public Health inspector also visited the bar on Monday and, as confirmed by the director of the Lanzarote Health area, Noelia Umpiérrez, a proposal for sanctions was going to be submitted to the establishment. The inspection revealed that the bar, which denied any responsibility for what happened, lacks authorization to serve meals.
