One of the premises that the Tourist Centers continue to rent in the Marina Rubicón marina suffered a robbery ten days ago, which had not been revealed until now. According to the complaint filed with the Civil Guard, the assailants took two laptops and a safe where "705 tickets" for the underwater museum were kept, the sale price of which would amount to "6,320 euros." A fact that Councilor Echedey Eugenio denies, who confirms the robbery but claims that the assailants only stole a computer and 10 tickets.
The assault occurred in the "Information Office" of the Atlantic Museum, located in one of the two premises that the Tourist Centers rented from the owners of Marina Rubicón. The rental contract was signed in July 2015, to be used as a workshop by the artist Jason de Caires, to make the figures. Now, two months after the museum was inaugurated, the Centers maintain the rental of those premises and part of it has been used as the "Information Office."
It was an employee of this office who reported the robbery last Monday, March 6. According to the Civil Guard report, at 7:00 p.m. on the previous Sunday, this employee received a call warning him that the office was open. Later, they discovered that someone had entered the interior, after breaking "a glass in the door", as the councilor explained.
The time of the robbery is unknown
The complaint could not specify the time of the robbery or, therefore, how long the premises remained open with the door broken. According to the report made by the Civil Guard, the robbery would have occurred between 6 a.m. on Sunday and 7 p.m. that same day. However, Eugenio claims that the office remains open every morning, during the museum's opening hours, and that the robbery took place between Saturday and Sunday.
Although the complainant could not provide data on the assailants, he did point out that the owner of a nearby business saw a group of about four or five young people that afternoon, who were later caught stealing in another establishment. Regarding the investigation, the councilor states that, so far, they are not aware of any arrests. In this regard, he specifies that there is "a camera system" and "a security company" in the port, although the premises did not have cameras or other security measures.

The robbery recorded in this underwater museum office is at least the third that has occurred in the Tourist Centers in just over a year. Another occurred in Jameos del Agua, where more than 70,000 euros were taken from the ticket office's collection, and another in the Farmer's Monument, where they forced two safes and managed to steal about 4,000 euros.
"The artist is still working" in those premises
Regarding the premises that the Tourist Centers continue to rent in Marina Rubicón, Echedey Eugenio states that the work in the workshop "has not finished" and that "the artist is working there", despite the fact that the museum was inaugurated last January. When asked about what De Caires is working on, given that it was announced that the work had already been completed, Eugenio pointed out that last week "a small sculpture was submerged" and that he "believes" that "there is still one more left", although the main part is already finished. "Now I think he is working on a figure," he added.
What he has not specified is when the museum will be completed or when the rent for these premises will stop being paid. Regarding the latter, he referred to the contract signed with Marina Rubicón, which stipulates that it will be in force "for the time necessary for the completion of the underwater museum and as long as it is necessary for the artist Jason de Caires, with a limit of 24 months from the date of signing the contract", provided that both parties do not reach another different agreement.
"The contract is the same one we already had," the councilor pointed out, when asked about the Information Office that has been opened in part of those premises. Under this contract, signed on July 1, 2015, the CACT pay Marina Rubicón 2,000 euros per month, plus IGIC, plus "maintenance and conservation expenses" at a rate of 2.4 euros per square meter, in addition to assuming the payment of the IBI of these premises.
