The municipality of Tías registered a decrease in the number of crimes during 2010. However, while theft crimes decreased, among others, cases of aggression and drug use increased. This is clear from the Performance Report that the Local Police of the municipality presented this Wednesday, which reflects that they have carried out 20,391 services during this year.
Regarding the number of acts perpetrated against property in 2010, these increased slightly compared to the previous year. In the last year, 539 crimes were registered compared to 520 in 2009 and 432 in 2008. However, robberies have decreased. In the case of robberies against people, 11 robberies were registered compared to 22 in the previous year, and robberies in properties have also decreased, with 70 complaints compared to 76 in 2009 and 95 in 2008. The same happens with thefts in establishments, which have gone from 34 to 25, although complaints for damages in the premises have increased, going from 18 to 36. On the other hand, robberies in vehicles increased from 13 to 16 and other types of robberies have also increased from 118 to 121.
In terms of traffic, there is a decrease in traffic violations reported compared to last year 2009, going from 3,733 to 2,895, most of which correspond to parking violations, which amount to 2,156, on traffic, which amount to 224, for the seat belt, 175, for lacking documentation and insurance, 137 complaints, and another 18 for lacking a driving permit and license, and 114 for talking on a mobile phone, among others.
Regarding the complaints imposed for speeding controlled by radar, they also experienced a reduction, going from 177 to 143. Regarding the breathalyzer tests carried out during the past year, out of 523 carried out, 65 were positive. Likewise, 365 infractions subject to point withdrawals were committed and 1,159 points were withdrawn for these.
Likewise, 231 vehicles were removed from public roads, mainly for infractions related to the General Traffic Regulations and the Road Safety Law, and there were 37 hookups.
Regarding the actions carried out by the Accident Unit, it is noted that the traffic accidents registered in 2010 amount to 381 compared to 380 in 2009. There were also 57 victims in traffic accidents, with 5 seriously injured, 40 slightly injured and 12 run over.
Violence, drugs and minors
In relation to cases of violence, incidents of aggression increase slightly from 39 to 42, fights and riots that go from 91 to 113 and mistreatment from 10 to 15. On the other hand, threats decrease from 23 to 19 and also disturbances to coexistence decrease from 104 to 81. The number of detainees for these crimes increased from 7 to 13 this year.
In relation to the possession or consumption of drugs, there was a spectacular increase from 6 to 61 cases and it also increased from 9 to 21 in the consumption of alcohol in public places. Likewise, the Local Police of Tías processed 528 proceedings, of which 250 were for crimes and misdemeanors, 65 for traffic accidents/drunk driving and 100 for arrests, among others.
Regarding the problems with minors, nine actions were counted related to school absenteeism/escape from juvenile centers, 7 less than the previous year. Also, 3 cases of mistreatment and 6 for alcohol consumption.
In the section on notifications, the number of actions amounted to 4,349. Interventions in urban planning matters, regarding reforms and earth movements, increased from 129 to 164.
In total, during 2010, the Local Police of Tías carried out 20,391 services, which reflects a decrease of 2,700 services compared to the previous year.

The Local Police of Tías is made up of a group of 52 officers, including 2 sub-inspectors, 6 officers and 44 officers. Likewise, 2 administrative assistants also carry out their work in the offices.
To specialize the work and optimize resources, fourteen units have been created. Of these, the ones with the most resources are the Intervention Group and the Citizen Security Group due to the characteristic specialties of the municipality, which have a total of 30 agents.
The rest are divided into the Intervention Group (14), Urban Planning (1), Traffic (8), Radar (2), Notifications (1), Beach Surveillance (2), Municipal Facilities Surveillance (1), Administrative Unit (2 plus 2 assistants), Transmissions (6), Accident Reports (4), Mobile Park Maintenance (1), Canine Unit (1) and Proximity (1).
