The Civil Guard has intercepted a Zodiac boat transporting just over a ton of hashish distributed in 41 bundles and sailing at high speed towards the Canary coasts, according to reports from Corporal José Miguel López, spokesperson for the Civil Guard Command in Las Palmas.
In total, the Civil Guard estimates that around 1,100-1,200 kilos of hashish have been seized, as each of the 41 bundles weighs approximately 25 to 30 kilos, which would have provided economic benefits to traffickers of approximately six million euros.
The interception was carried out by an Air Force plane on an immigration surveillance and control mission within the framework of Operation Noble Centinela, about 10 nautical miles south of Gran Canaria.
The Almirante Díaz Pimienta Patrol Boat immediately joined the operation, and its rapid action prevented the two occupants of the boat, both of Moroccan nationality, from disposing of the drugs by throwing them into the sea.
The Patrol Boat transported the drugs to the Arguineguín Dock, along with the two traffickers, who have been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority accused of an international drug trafficking crime.
The police operation remains open until the recipients of this cache are located.
