The Civil Guard detains 7 immigrants who arrived in the semi-sunken boat found in Los Ancones

Throughout the afternoon of this Sunday, the Civil Guard arrested seven adult male immigrants of Maghreb origin during a search operation carried out in Lanzarote to locate the occupants of the boat found half-sunken in the coastal area of Punta de Los Ancones, Teguise.

These seven Maghrebi men, aged between 20 and 36, were part of a group of twenty immigrants who arrived in a boat during the early hours of Sunday. Apparently, according to the first data collected by the agents, the boat capsized while its occupants were disembarking.

It was at about 12:30 p.m. when the lifeless body of an adult male of Maghreb origin was discovered in the sea, which the currents dragged towards the shore.

The "Báltico" patrol boat of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard carried out searches by sea, finding no other bodies, refloating the boat and towing it to the Arrecife Dock. Likewise, the engine of this boat was recovered several meters deep.

The only corpse found in the area was transferred to the forensic depot of Arrecife, where it will be subjected to the corresponding autopsy to determine the exact causes of his death, although the first indications suggest that he probably died of drowning.
