The Civil Guard of the Provincial Maritime Service of Las Palmas detected a professional fishing vessel inside the port of La Luz, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on August 6. According to the Benemérita, the boat was without navigation lights and was caught "lowering seine nets" on the La Vela Latina dock.

The Civil Guard became aware after being alerted by the camera control service of the Port of La Luz, so a coordinated operation was carried out with the Port Police for this purpose, specifically with the officials assigned to the Camera Control Service of the port.

At 10:45 p.m., personnel from the Las Palmas Port Maritime Service appeared at the control center of the Port Authority and were able to observe through the closed-circuit television how several individuals were lowering seine nets in said dock and collecting catches on board, therefore, the aforementioned Agents of the Maritime Service went to the place, at which time the fishing vessel arrived and, after docking, they were able to observe how inside said vessel there were more than 300 kilograms of fresh sardines and that two of the three occupants were not registered for professional fishing.

Due to the above, a complaint was filed for everything that happened, in fishing matters for the capture of these specimens inside a port space, as well as for non-compliance with the regulations of the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine regarding the registration of crew members, leaving the illegally captured fish in deposit at the San Cristóbal Fishermen's Association, whose destination is awaiting donation or destruction.

After the transfer and weighing of the seized goods, it was found that, without ice, the catches amounted to exactly 330 kilograms, and that they were halach sardinas, with FAO nomenclature: SAA, these remaining in deposit with the administration of that brotherhood and at the disposal of the Vice-Ministry of Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, the latter being the one who will determine its final destination.
