The union section of the Tahíche Penitentiary Center of ACAIP has denounced an aggression and threats by an inmate against an official, which has resulted in the worker being injured and the prisoner in the isolation department.

The Association of Bodies of the Penitentiary Institutions Administration has explained in a statement that the events took place in the income module last July 21 at 6:35 p.m..

It all started after an inmate communicated with a family member. Suspecting that he could be carrying prohibited substances, the officials decided to transfer him to the income department to carry out the relevant check.

However, the inmate began to “get upset and utter threats”, explain from ACAIP, and emphasize that, during the threats, “he said the street he lives on".

“As he did not give up his attitude, he is ordered to wait in one of the cells in said department. At that moment he takes the opportunity to release a headbutt that impacts the worker's forehead, causing serious contusions, as well as headaches and dizziness that require a first exploration in the center pending the evolution of the injuries”, adds the union section.

An aggression every 36 hours in Spain

In addition, the ACAIP recalls that this situation is not an isolated case, but that in Spain there is “an aggression against prison workers every 36 hours” and denounce a “staff deficit of about 3,000 places” throughout the country.

“All this occurs a week after the concentrations in front of the Government Delegations to protest precisely the aggressions to which prison workers are subjected”, explains the union section of the Tahíche prison.

“These mobilizations are part of the collective conflict that this union maintains with the penitentiary administration, due to the null capacity of the latter to meet the needs of the group and the negotiation of improvements in their working conditions”, they insist.
