The Arrecife City Council closed this Wednesday a conflictive smoking den in the Las Rapaduras area. With this new intervention, the council continues with its plan to close the conflictive points of the capital of Lanzarote.

According to a press release issued by the council, the Arrecife Local Police were aware that it was used for drug dealing activities and was used as drug smoking dens.

On the morning of this Wednesday, operators of Vías y Obras of the City Council, escorted by the Local Police, proceeded to the closure, using a wall enclosure with blocks.

The Arrecife City Council assures that the property was "in a Dante-esque situation of unsanitary conditions, with several holes made by drug addicts for years to access its interior and consume narcotics."

The house, walled up since this Wednesday, had double access from Cádiz street, and León y Castillo street, in the area formerly known as Cuarenta Brazas or Las Rapaduras. This property, with signs of abandonment, is located between the neighborhoods of Los Alonso and Altavista.

Four closures in one week

The Local Police, under the direct direction of the mayor of Arrecife, is carrying out an investigation of the conflictive points of the city, and with the follow-ups and investigations that have been carried out, the walling up of these properties is being carried out, some of them occupied, and others, mostly, used for drug dealing or drug use.

Mayor Yonathan de León has ordered the closure of conflictive points in areas of the Argana, Maneje, La Vega, Los Alonso, La Destila and the city center neighborhoods. Of these, four have been focused on drug issues.

The mayor wants Las Rapaduras to stop "being a focus linked to the red history of the city," and that the projects launched with new licenses to build new residential buildings, and openings of shops and service stations, give the impulse for the change of the urban image.

The mayor has recalled that a municipal sports center, with a swimming pool, is located nearby, and the City Council will execute an important urban transformation work on León y Castillo street in this mandate to unite the neighborhoods of Los Alonso, Altavista, El Lomo and Valterra with the Cuatros Esquinas. An intervention that has an approved project and municipal investment.
