The Arrecife Local Police arrested the driver of a vehicle on Sunday afternoon who ran over a person while crossing the pedestrian crossing located in the Valterra neighborhood, right in front of the Hiperdino supermarket. The municipal agents proceeded to arrest J.T.A.C., 55 years old and a native of Arrecife, for an alleged crime against traffic safety. This woman exceeded the permitted alcohol level by double and, therefore, was placed at the disposal of the courts. The person who was run over was injured with a reserved prognosis.

On the other hand, the Local Police also arrested J.G.P., 44 years old, and a native of San Bartolomé, after colliding with another vehicle due to his state of intoxication. The perpetrator, who tripled the alcohol level, crashed into the vehicle of a National Police officer, who was finishing his service at that time, and who was injured with a possible cervical sprain.

The police officers instructed proceedings against the detainee and placed him at the disposal of the judicial authority for an alleged crime against traffic safety.

Within the framework of the campaign against alcohol consumption on public roads and behind the wheel, which the Arrecife City Council has been carrying out for some months, the police carried out a total of 56 breathalyzer tests this weekend, of which four were positive. In addition, alcohol consumption was observed in 16 more people.

According to the report prepared by the Local Police, two of the drivers who tested positive in the breathalyzer tests were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, while the remaining two were reported through administrative channels. The detainees were E.C.G., 28 years old and a native of Las Palmas, and M.J.V.F., 20 years old and a native of Arrecife. Both tripled the alcohol level.

No drinking sprees

Regarding other capital events of the weekend, it should be noted that the municipal agents did not observe any drinking sprees, nor any breaches in the closing of the capital's leisure venues. According to the mayor of Arrecife and councilor delegate for the Police, Cándido Reguera, the campaign against alcohol consumption on public roads that the City Council has launched "is beginning to have positive effects, with a notable decrease in alcohol consumption by drivers during weekends".

In this sense, Reguera wanted to express his satisfaction with the work currently carried out by the municipal agents, while congratulating them "for the efforts they make in their daily work, despite the few material and human resources they have".

As is known, the Arrecife City Council, through the Local Police, has carried out an important campaign against alcohol consumption on public roads and behind the wheel throughout this last year, carrying out breathalyzer tests throughout the city, mainly on weekends, which aim to alleviate possible traffic accidents due to excessive alcohol consumption.
