Three short films signed by Canarian filmmakers who have participated in the Lanzarote International Film Festival (FICL) have been selected as finalists for the XVI RNE Cinematographic Short Film Award, one of the most important competitions in the national circuit. The contest, promoted by Radio Nacional de España in collaboration with Platino Crowdfunding, has received 58 works, of which only ten have been chosen for the final phase.
The Culture Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jesús Machín Tavío, wanted to congratulate the three finalists and stressed that "the talent of our filmmakers is making its way in the national scene, and we are proud that the Lanzarote Film Festival is a starting point for so many emerging creators." Machín insisted on the importance of continuing to bet on spaces that promote audiovisual creativity "as a tool of expression and as a cultural engine of our islands."
Among the outstanding works is Cuenta atrás, by the Lanzarote director Iván Umpiérrez, who recently won the second prize in the 7th Corto Exprés Roberto Pérez Toledo Contest, held within the framework of the XXV Lanzarote International Film Festival. Also competing are La Mancha, by Nacho Peña from Conejero, and Beta, by Emilio González from Gran Canaria. The first was filmed at the Festivalito de La Palma and participated in the last Official Section of Canarian Shorts of the FICL. The second is part of the audiovisual trajectory of González, who has been actively linked to the festival as a filmmaker and presenter of its galas.
The Lanzarote International Film Festival is organized by Fisme Producciones, with the support of the Culture Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Lanzarote Film Commission–Canary Island Films, the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development, the Society for Foreign Promotion of Lanzarote (SPEL) through its brand Lanzarote Film Commission, Promotur Turismo de Canarias, the Arrecife City Council and the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism. In addition, it has the special collaboration of Worten Canarias.
