The Library of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has been awarded its second CCB Seal thanks to the projects “Digital Memory of the Canary Islands (mdC)” and “Jable. Digital Press Archive”.
This distinction, promoted by the Library Cooperation Council of the Ministry of Culture, aims to highlight innovative ideas from Spanish libraries, whether they are school, specialized, national or regional, public and university libraries.
Specifically, this year's awards recognize proposals that help libraries gain more visibility within society, that protect and disseminate bibliographic heritage, as well as knowledge of the authorship of women in all fields, among others.
“Digital Memory of the Canary Islands (mdC)” is a portal that has archived a vast documentary heritage of the Canary Islands since 2003, both in audiovisual and printed format. The compilation includes images, films, manuscripts, and sound recordings produced in the islands or by residents of the islands, without limitation of copyright.
On the other hand, the “Jable. Digital Press Archive” project is an immense compilation of historical and modern press of general interest digitized by the ULPGC, including bulletins, gazettes, magazines, and other publications. This open-access information includes more than 238,000 copies belonging to 721 titles, which translates to a total of 7,554,082 pages.
The Library of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria obtained its first CCB Seal with the Violet Space of the University Library in 2019, thanks to its proposals for gender equality, attention to diversity, and social inclusion.
