The Tegoyo Hostel hosted the I Festival of Canarian Letters, organized by the Cultural and Literary Association “Tabaibas y Veroles”, last Saturday, March 26.
Outstanding writers such as Marcos Hormiga, from Fuerteventura, Felicidad Batista, from Tenerife, Juan Francisco Santana from Gran Canaria and Fabio Carreiro from Lanzarote, delighted an exquisite audience that completely filled the venue's capacity and enthusiastically applauded all the participants.
The announcer and president of the A.C.S. Microamicro of Tenerife, Rosario Rodríguez Vidal, was in charge of directing the ceremony, and the show was opened by the teacher and historian neighbor of Mácher, Juan Cruz Sepúlveda. The teacher made a fairly accurate review of the history of this beautiful house, which despite the times, remains “in very good condition.”
In the act the children Andrea Bermúdez Fernández, Paula Martín Luís and Alejandro Tejera Díaz read their stories and poems. And, in addition, the musicians Carmen García Rodríguez with her violin, Giovanni Noda on the saxophone and, Andrés Peñate and Vicente López, as members of the “Guachinche del Juglar” Duo, also performed, with peculiar themes that surprised everyone.
The minutes of the jury were also read, to give the name of the winners of the Poetry Contest “Versos De Luna”, organized by the Association. The first prize went to Santiago Martín Garrido, with the poem entitled “Los Ajaches", awarded with 100 euros, in addition to a batch of books and an accrediting diploma.
The second prize went to Ana María Martín González, with the poem “Espejismos”, and she was given a batch of books and an accrediting diploma. Finally, the third prize went to Alfredo Cabrera Delgado, with the poem “Isla”, also receiving a batch of books and an accrediting diploma.
Once the award ceremony was over, the attendees enjoyed tasting kneaded gofio, goat cheese and nuts, sprinkled with a delicious red wine.
Finally, the president of “Tabaibas y Veroles”, Emilio Fernández Batista, presented his due respects to everyone, thanking everyone and everyone who made this act possible, as well as the Poetry Contest “Versos De Luna”, clarifying the importance that the Youth Area of the Tías City Council, directed by Christopher Notario Déniz, had in sponsoring the entirety of such an outstanding literary event.
