On the occasion of the festivities of Santiago Apóstol and Santa Ana in Tahíche, on Friday night the family of the Agrupación Folclórica Guagime celebrated its 'XIII Festival', the event held in the tent installed on the sports court of the Santiago Socio-Cultural Center. The Mayor had the great family of the Agrupación Folclórica 'Malpaís de la Corona', from the municipality of Haría, a group created in 1978 and in the past patron saint festivities of San Juan Bautista de Haría celebrated its 'XX Festival.
Malpaís de la Corona began its performance with one of the songs that gives title to its second album La flor de Guinate, continuing with the most traditional songs and dances of Canarian folklore, wearing on this occasion the traditional clothing of the '19th and 20th Centuries'. The movements of the choreographies of Malpaís de la Corona attract attention in each of their performances, for their vivacity and elegance, which are accompanied by the chords of the very tuned touch body and some very powerful voices that are always very taken into account by the public that rewards them with their applause.
The second part of the festival, a very emotional moment, in which Título Postumo was recognized for the outstanding work of the folk singer Ginés Machín, member of the group, born in the town of Soo and resident in Haría for many years until his death in 2010. His relatives were present at the event, a very large family, who were very excited and surrounded by the applause of the public went on stage to collect the highest award, the 'Silver Badge' that was presented to him by Fefo Pérez, the president of Guagime. In addition, they were given the 'Traditional Staff and Diploma', thus becoming the central moment of the night where a video was also shown with some reviews about the life of Ginés Machín.
The Agrupación Folclórica Guagime, which was the organizer of the festival, worked hard to achieve the set objective, which was far exceeded, taking care of even the smallest detail. They began by giving the public some artisan shortbread cookies minutes before the festival began.
The Agrupación Folclórica Guagime linked to the Municipal School of Folklore of the municipality of Teguise, where students are initiated in the handling of instruments and the most outstanding, if they wish, become part of the group, as is the case with the components of the dance body. The dancers are gradually incorporated until they manage to adapt to the rest of their companions.
In this edition, Guagime had new members, among them, young women and men who were very excited and committed to making the traditions continue forward representing Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. Guagime offered the public the most representative of the folklore of the island such as: 'Los Aíres de Lima de La Palma', 'Santo Domingo Gomero', 'Folias de Lanzarote', 'Berlina Majorera' or the 'Isa Parrandera', among others, a performance very applauded by the public that packed the facilities. With the family photo, Guagime put an end to a night marked by the Canarian traditions.
