The Lanzarote Film Festival was inaugurated this Thursday in Puerto Naos. From the organization of the event they point out that they chose this place because it is "the epicenter of fishing activity in Arrecife" and "condenses a large part of the social, economic, industrial and human memory of Lanzarote." In addition, "it has the privilege of being a place from where you can see the famous salt flats, essential for salting fish, important canneries such as Rocar and Frigorsa, the Ribera carpentry or the Fishing School," they add.

According to its director, Javier Fuentes Feo, “this 2022 the Sample wanted to give these fishing spaces the prominence they deserve. Recognize its value and interest. And to think, through cinema, what fishing has meant in the past, means in the present and will mean in the future, both on the island and in the rest of the countries. However, as in previous editions, the Film Festival develops other programming lines with extremely interesting films, such as those presented in the Official Section or the most recent contributions from Canarian cinema. Without forgetting the walks, the family sessions, the children's workshops and the conferences that we organize. In addition, we are very proud to be able to take these activities to five municipalities of Lanzarote.”

In one of the most emotional moments of the night, Marcos Uzal received the Honorary Award and in his speech he highlighted that “for Lanzarote, its Sample must be a celebration because it allows you to see another cinema, different films that would otherwise be impossible to bring. It is a phenomenon to celebrate that the Sample program is here. On the other hand, for us it is an honor to have been given the Honorary Award because criticism is not usually rewarded, it is not something usual. For this reason, it is an honor that the organizers have awarded Cahiers since it is also an award for our work and the magazine's contribution to the history of cinema.”

The award, a bottle of wine Vendimia de Invierno, from Bodegas El Grifo, was presented, as is now a tradition, by the couple of free thinkers who more than a decade ago conceived the idea that Lanzarote should have an independent Film Festival, Marco Arrocha Pérez and Juan Rafael Martínez Curbelo (Busqui).

As usual, artists and thinkers from different artistic disciplines have collaborated in the inauguration of the Sample. On this occasion, Germán Barrios, Gloria Cabrera Socorro, Mario Ferrer Peñate, Karina Lacourtois, Salvador Leal, Parranda Marinera Los Buches, Vanessa Solano and Cristina Temprano have participated.

In addition, the program for this year was also presented at the inauguration. As in the last editions, the different sections and activities have been organized to show the invisible threads that connect the island with other remote and unsuspected places in the world. In addition to bringing those same experiences and reflections to the youngest through the educational program.

The 12th Lanzarote Film Festival is sponsored by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers, Canary Islands Film, the Canarian Institute for Cultural Development, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts of Spain, among others. In addition, it has the collaboration of other entities such as Geoparque Lanzarote and Archipiélago Chinijo, Televisión Canaria and the town halls of Haría, Teguise, Tías, San Bartolomé and Arrecife.
