About thirty professionals linked to culture from the Canary Islands have participated in the work 'Perspective Manrique'. The book has been published by the César Manrique Foundation (FCM). The objective of the work has been to create a multidisciplinary mosaic that represents the artist César Manrique. "They expand the understanding and interpretation of specific aspects of the artist's subjectivity and his creative universe, whether it be painting, environmental works or activism," adds the Foundation itself in a statement.
Specifically, the book consists of 31 texts whose authors, including university professors, writers, artists, architects and critics, are: Teresa Arozena, María Laura Benavente, Luna Bengoechea, Adonay Bermúdez, Rafael-José Díaz, Carlos Díaz-Bertrana, José María Fernández-Palacios, Carmela García, Oswaldo Guerra, José Herrera, Míchel Jorge Millares, Moneiba Lemes, Pablo Ley, Alicia Llarena, José Manuel Marrero, Fernando Menis, Rosa Mesa, Nilo Palenzuela, Luis Palmero, Yolanda Peralta, Flora Pescador, Antonio Puente, Sara Robayna, Dalia de la Rosa, Fernando Sabaté, Juan Sánchez, Andrés Sánchez Robayna, Lázaro Santana, Ernesto Suárez, Mónica Trujillo and Carmelo Vega de la Rosa.
The mention of some titles of the collected essays gives an idea of the variety of topics and aspects addressed: 'Manrique: from cultural event to myth. Notes for a ghost anthropology', 'Landscape-sequence', 'Activism as inheritance', '7,000 palm trees', 'Pepi Gómez: the good shadow of César Manrique', 'Monstera deliciosa', 'Precious objects and precise objectives. The Warehouse as a pioneering space', 'An unsuspected derivation of Manrique: preserving a vernacular breed', 'Short story of an imaginary trip with César Manrique through the north of Tenerife' or 'Coat of arms for César Manrique. A tribute by José-Miguel Ullán'.
'Perspective Manrique' is the ninth and last title of the Essay collection published by the Foundation since 2000. Among its most recent publications are: 'Manrique and his Lanzarote project. A realized utopia?', by Jakub Kloc-Konkolowicz; 'Museopathies', by Fernando Estévez; or 'Urbanism for castaways. Recommendations on planning and urban design', by Pablo Gigosos and Manuel Saravia. This collection includes studies on art and public spaces, landscape, territory, art and nature. All works are translated into English.
In the words of Fernando Gómez Aguilera, director of the César Manrique Foundation, regarding the publication, “the cultural diversity of the approaches, their synthetic form and the intergenerational character of their protagonists offer a wealth of perspectives that enrich the object of study, César Manrique, and serve as a stimulus for the reader to complete sections or new turns of the suggested itineraries on their own”.
The authors of the texts presented the visions captured in this book during the conference entitled 'Perspective Manrique', which took place in January 2020 within the framework of the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of César Manrique organized by his Foundation between 2019 and 2020. The publication can now be purchased at the FCM store, located at its headquarters in Taro de Tahíche.
