The CEIP Capellanía de Yágabo from Lanzarote has won five awards at Cinedfest 6, emerging as one of the great winners of the awards ceremony. Five hundred schoolchildren from La Palma, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, filled the Yelmo cinemas in the capital of Tenerife with enthusiasm, hoping to see the result of their work during the 2018/2019 film course on the big screen and to find out if their work was one of the award winners.
This year the Cinedfest 6 awards ceremony was divided into two parts: Primary and the rest of the educational cycles. After the screening of the winning short films, the award for the best Primary short film was announced, which went to Ceip Samoga (El Sauzal), thanks to their audiovisual piece 'Unicorn', a defense of animal rights. The second Primary award went to 'The World Upside Down', from Ceip Las Mercedes (Lanzarote), which, using a reversal of roles between teachers and students, defends the rights of children.
Among the five awards won by the Ceip Capellanía del Yágabo from Lanzarote, it obtained the award for the best animated short film with 'Plastic', a piece that wants to raise awareness about the environmental problem generated by the tons of plastic produced by contemporary society. The award for the educational center also went to Ceip Capellanía del Yágabo, for its defense of cinema in the classroom. This center also won the Disa Foundation award that promotes values of equality thanks to the piece 'The Game of the Century', which promotes gender equality.
For its part, the CEIP de Argana Alta won the award for Best Comedy with its short Rewind, the adventures of Shayma to get the three magic words.
The Acting Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Soledad Monzón, was in charge of announcing to the attendees of the gala the work most valued by the jury for being the film that has best captured the spirit of the Educational Festival of the Canary Islands. "Cinedfest is growing and allows us to make visible the talent that exists in the Canary Islands. There is no stopping this festival," he said.
The morning gala, which was presented by the actor Mingo Ávila (who has just participated in the series 'Hierro') was held in an entertaining way and included the intervention of the winners. "It is a pride to participate in an audiovisual project that turns children into protagonists and provides them with tools to tell stories," said a teacher from Ceip Teobaldo Power.
Enclave Awards
The jury that decided which of the educational centers took these awards was made up of, among others, Emilio Ramal (head of audiovisuals at TEA), Luis Adern (filmmaker and producer) or Fran Casanova (film director).
For its part, the Enclave award went to El ro"bobo",, from IES El Médano, a work that in a humorous way criticizes prejudices about people with functional diversity. Likewise, a special mention was given to 'Lian', from IES Playa Honda and IES San Bartolomé. This Thursday the second awards ceremony will be held in the Secondary, Baccalaureate and FP-CEPA cycles.
