The first week of April in Lanzarote is full of cultural events. Humor, lots of classical music, flamenco, cinema and lots and lots of theater as the San Bartolomé festival continues and the Librarte festival proposals in Haría are added.

In addition, the Canary Islands Religious Music Festival lands in the Church of San Ginés in Arrecife and the Letras Aisladas literary festival begins in El Almacén.

HUMOR

  • Vibrato. Salva Reina and Paul Alone

Vibrato combines humor, comedy and music in the magical venue of La Recova.

With the performances of the actor and comedian Salva Reina, winner of the Goya Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in El 47 by Marcel Barrena; and the singer-songwriter Paul Alone, who will offer an outstanding performance in Arrecife with melodic pop along with influences from rock, punk and rumba.

 

MUSIC

  • String Quintet of the Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote

The String Quintet of the Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote performs this Thursday a repertoire that combines the elegance of chamber music with the depth of poetry.

  • Dramatized concert by Raquel del Pino

The Cycle of Dramatized Concerts “Between notes and words” also returns to the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz. The soprano and guitarist Raquel del Pino will give a concert entitled 'Lunares en el alma' (Polka dots in the soul).

  • Concert with music by Johann Sebastian Bach

The Canary Islands Religious Music Festival arrives at the Church of San Ginés in Arrecife with a concert with spiritual songs and arias by one of the best composers of baroque music, the German Johann Sebastian Bach. The concert will be given by the company Los Músicos de Su Alteza. The concert, which begins at 8:00 p.m., will be preceded by a talk about Bach starting at 6:30 p.m.

When: Friday, April 4 at 8:00 p.m. The talk at 6:30 p.m.

  • Concert with music by Tomás Luis de Victoria

The Canary Islands Religious Music Festival also offers a concert on the work of Tomás Luis de Victoria, one of the most important composers of the Spanish Renaissance. The concert, by the company I Fagolini, begins at 8:00 p.m. and will be preceded by a talk about the aforementioned composer starting at 6:30 p.m.

DANCE

  • The confluence

La confluencia is a show that represents a new reading of the root of the codes of flamenco art. A project that aims at choreographic creation from a current flamenco dance language that feeds on its past and its roots and also on contemporary art.

When: Saturday, April 5 at 8:00 p.m.

Where: Auditorium of Jameos del Agua.

CINEMA

  • Double session of the best animated cinema

The Cine Buñuel of El Almacén presents this Thursday a double session of the best animated cinema. On the one hand, the feature film Black Butterflies, by the Tenerife director David Baute, which addresses the urgency of the current climate crisis. On the other hand, the animated short film Cafunè, co-directed by Carlos F. de Vigo and Lorena Ares, will also be screened. Both films were awarded a Goya in the last edition of the contest.

  • If you leave

The company Pepa Plana, National Circus Award in 2022, has developed a repertoire marked by its commitment to social denunciation, the vindication of the role of clowns and female comedy. In this work, she pays special attention to the complex human relationships that arise in war contexts, highlighting that, despite the differences and daily tensions, people, deep down, love and need each other.

  • Desolation

The Chespir theater company offers the play La desolación in the San Bartolomé theater. The play talks about the feeling of “emptiness” that can be felt when we lose something or an important person leaves our life leaving us disoriented, frustrated, confused and hopeless.

  • Juan's curriculum

The SomoS theater company offers the play El Currículum de Juan, which talks about the life experience of any person and all stages of their life, although in this case the focus is on a certain Juan.

  • My night library

The Librarte Festival brings a show that merges theater and literature to give life to the Municipal Library of Haría.

  • Micro Cinema

The Librarte Festival brings for the first time to Lanzarote a micro cinema show by the company Frau Trapp (school during morning hours and general public during evening hours).

«FIVE LINES» is a hybrid creation that combines the language of theater, audiovisual art and live music. It speaks of human nature through a couple relationship in a dystopian setting in which the earth is dying and society must adapt to armored spaces that sacrifice freedom in exchange for security.

LITERATURE

  • Isolated letters

The third edition of the literary meeting Isolated Letters focuses on Lanzarote letters starring women writers.

The dialogue between the writing processes, art and poetic creation will be addressed through conversations, workshops and round tables to promote reading and writing.

  • Lana Corujo and “They have sung bingo”

The festival activities include a meeting with the Lanzarote writer Lana Corujo, who will talk about her latest book, They have sung bingo.

  • Presentation of the book “Island”

The artist from Arrecife, intimately linked in his vital and artistic journey to the Charco de San Ginés and fishing, Juan Gopar, will present his book “Island”.

  • Pencos and sarpetas: misogyny in manifestations of Canarian popular culture»

The multidisciplinary artist and researcher Daniasa M. Curbelo proposes a space for debate and reflection on the moral values in many of the rites, gestures and expressions of Canarian popular culture that share a patriarchal social order where women and other dissident identities occupy the margins or suffer the consequences of not complying with what is established.

EXHIBITIONS

  • Ten books for an island

This Friday the exhibition Ten books for an island by Commissioner Pepe Betancort opens at the Casa Amarilla.

The exhibition arises from an initiative of the Lanzarote Data Center that identified the ten most representative books of the island, consulting various figures from the cultural field.

When: From Friday, April 4 to July 12.
