The Parranda El Lagar de Teseguite celebrated this Friday the 'VIII Memorial Juan Cabrera Lemes'. An event that was held at the San Leandro socio-cultural center with the social hall at full capacity.

The event began with the performance of the Musical Group 'Parranda Ixemada', from San Miguel de Geneto in the municipality of La Laguna in Tenerife. 'Ixemada' is a group that was founded in 2009 and currently has 40 members distributed between the group and the dance corps. In their performance they offered a very varied selection with the most representative songs and dances of Tenerife that were interspersed with songs of the old ballroom dances, such as pasodobles and rancheras. Its members were very grateful for the reception and affection that the public dedicated to them with their applause, since for them it was the first visit they made to the island of Lanzarote.

In its 15 years of life they have had the opportunity to visit other islands of the Archipelago participating in festivals and pilgrimages, in addition, it has a record entitled 'Arrancamos'. The group is directed in the musical part by Carlos de la Rosa and every time they have the opportunity to show their work in public, they do so giving the best they know how to do, sing and dance.

The second part of the memorial was enlivened by the organizers, 'La Parranda El Lagar de Teseguite' which was founded in 2003 with the aim of consolidating a formation that would represent the town on different stages. Another purpose was to be able to liven up some parties in the nearby towns, spreading in this way, the music and dances with danceable themes adapted by groups or orchestras for ballroom dances without losing the essence of yesteryear.

'La Parranda El Lagar de Teseguite' also had its good friends the members of the Association of Typical Dances 'Altaja'. The group was created in 2013 by restless young people with the main commitment to rescue, disseminate and promote the folklore of Lanzarote from all its aspects, covering the different styles framed in the Canary Islands.

'Altaja' is formed by women and men from all over the island of Lanzarote, connoisseurs of the traditions that express the best they know how to do with their songs and dances, a legacy inherited from our elders who take care of the smallest detail so that the heritage and signs of identity of our Canarian people are not lost.

Posthumous recognition to Rosa Delia

This year the group had a very special and emotional section with the posthumous recognition of the young companion of 'El Lagar', Rosa Delia Hernández Armas who died last year. Once the reading was finished, which reflected some passages of the commitments that Rosa Delia was acquiring so that the folklore was not lost and continued at the top. She encouraged family and friends to continue while fighting her illness trying to overcome it, an objective that in the end she could not achieve.

The public that packed the social hall offered in her honor the warmest and most extensive applause as a tribute. Then, her husband Carlos and her little son Hugo collected the sculpture symbol of El Lagar de Teseguite that was given to her by Jacinto Fernández, a member of the group.

The night continued enlivened with the songs of the hosts who, very grateful for the reception of the public, pleased them with the best of their musical repertoire.
