The residents of the town of Soo celebrated the festival of their Patron Saint San Juan Bautista with the solemn Eucharist at 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday in the tent installed in the El Buen Lugar Socio-Cultural Center. For the first time in so many years, they had to make this move as the church was closed due to problems in its structure, so they have to wait for the relevant protocols for its repair and reopening for worship.
Rafael Tejera, parish priest of Tiagua, presided over the Eucharist and the songs for the celebration were interpreted by the musical group from the town of Muñique, who were also joined by the voices of the parishioners who, for such a special day, came to participate and honor San Juan Bautista, who, according to what the evangelists wrote, was a legal administrator, the precursor of Christ and came for the way before him.
After the Eucharist, the members of the Agrupación la Gran Aldea de Teguise, directed by Jesús Cabrera, made their offering with Canarian songs and dances that were greatly applauded by the public present. As tradition dictates in the town of Soo, the president of the current festival committee, Nori Machín Barrios, announced the names of the neighbors who will be part of the new Festival Committee next year.
Next, the image of San Juan Bautista, accompanied by the priest, celebrating the municipal authorities, presided over by the mayor of the Teguise city council Olivia Duque and the residents of Soo, set off in procession to the church. Minutes before crossing the portico, the vivas were heard with very powerful voices mixed with applause, a very emotional moment where some neighbors could not contain their tears when they saw the image of San Juan Bautista crossing the portico of the church.
