In this new edition, the theme 'The Camel in Canarian Culture' has been chosen, since UNESCO has declared 2024 the 'International Year of Camelids', to recognize the contribution of this species to the survival of the population in hostile conditions.
The edition of this autonomous competition wants to transfer this declaration of UNESCO to highlight the "contribution of the camel in Canarian society". The Canarian camel has been present since the 15th century and arrived floating or towed to the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, moving to the rest of the islands. The camel was mainly used for the transport of goods and people, it was used in a multitude of agricultural tasks and has contributed to shaping a unique agricultural landscape that is currently unique and world-renowned.
The event was attended by councilors of education from various municipalities on the island, several representatives of educational centers and the management of the teacher training center and, representing the company Cicar-Overcame, Naira Valls Cabrera and the president of the Mercedes Medina Díaz Association, Juan Cruz Sepúlveda.
