The First Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has postponed the trial against six defendants accused of introducing drugs in Lanzarote, through Órzola, which was scheduled for this Tuesday, May 27. The lack of an agreement to reach a conformity between the Public Prosecutor's Office and the defenses has forced the suspension of the oral hearing and to reschedule the trial for a date yet to be determined.
The events date back to January 9, 2024, when three of the accused A.L.E., E.F.D. and A.T.F.O. allegedly introduced "significant quantities" of hashish and cocaine on the beach of La Cantería, in the northern town, using pneumatic boats.
According to the Prosecutor's Office's indictment, the accused allegedly used two cars to transport the drug to a garage located on Jose Alonso street, located between the Arrecife neighborhoods of Valterra and Los Alonso. The Ministry assures that in this place it was permanently stored and from there they allegedly distributed and sold it.
According to the information that La Voz was able to obtain then, one of the accused is an expert fisherman in the area and a great connoisseur of the sea, who allegedly used his boats to go to the meeting points in the high seas to collect the drug that he would later take to the coast.
Searches in Arrecife, Teguise and Tinajo
In the framework of this investigation, up to three rounds of searches were carried out. First, in the Arrecife garage, in the same building as the garage, where one of the accused lived, as well as another property in El Cuchillo (Tinajo), and a last one in Rafael Alberti street (Tahíche). In this first part they intercepted 256 kilograms of cannabis resin and one kilogram of cocaine. In addition, they located 55.7 kilograms of cannabis in one of the cars.
The Court authorized a second round of inspections. On this occasion, the police searched the home of another of the accused A.F.B.D. in Tahíche, where they found 69.18 grams of cocaine and 25.7 grams of hashish; as well as another home on El Salvador street in Arrecife, where J.C.B.R. lived and in which they located 78.66 grams of hashish.
The third round of searches led to entering another property on Jose Antonio street, which belonged to the father of the accused A.L.E. In this property they located hashish, heroin, cocaine, cash and a luxury watch.
In this operation, a semi-rigid boat type zodiac, a Chevrolet vehicle, a Renault Kangoo, a Toyota Land Cruiser, all owned by A.L.E., as well as a Citroen Berlingo and a Toyota Land Cruiser, owned by E.F.D. were also seized.
The Prosecutor's Office asks for A.L.E., E.F.D. and A.T.F.O., accused of being the main perpetrators of a crime against public health in its modality of substances that cause serious damage to health, eight years in prison for each one and a fine of 100,000 euros.
Meanwhile, it attributes to the other two defendants A.F.B.D., and B.E. the co-authorship of a crime against public health for substances that cause serious damage to health and asks for the second four years and five months in prison and a fine of 20,000 euros and for the first four years and 9,000 euros of sanction.
Finally, for J.C.B.R., the only defendant in the modality of substances that do not cause serious damage to health, he asks for two years in prison and a fine of 700 euros.
