The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court has sentenced a man to three years in prison after he was arrested at Lanzarote airport with 71.15 grams of cocaine and who acknowledged the facts during the trial, resulting in a judgment of conformity.
Specifically, according to a final judgment dated July 16, the events took place on October 3, 2016, at approximately 7:25 p.m., when the defendant, a native of the Dominican Republic but with legal residence in Spain, had the drugs seized after landing at the Lanzarote airport on a flight from Madrid.
The 71.15 grams of cocaine seized had "an average purity of 47.98% in values expressed as pure cocaine, which, with total disregard for individual and collective health, he was carrying in his luggage for subsequent sale and distribution," the court adds, stating that the seized substance reaches in the current illicit market "the value of 1216.35 euros." In addition, the defendant had 490 euros seized.
Thus, after expressing his agreement with the Public Prosecutor's qualification, the defendant has been sentenced to a penalty of three years in prison. In addition, the ruling imposes a fine of 1,225 euros with subsidiary personal liability of five days in case of non-payment, special disqualification for the right of passive suffrage for the same period, and payment of the costs of the trial.
