The court number two square of the Court of Instance of the Criminal Section of Puerto del Rosario has convicted for unauthorized practice a man who offered facial rejuvenation laser treatments and hyaluronic acid injections in a beauty salon in Fuerteventura without having a Medical degree, required for this type of practice. This has been reported by the College of Physicians of Las Palmas, which became aware in 2021 that a center was offering these types of treatments and immediately reported the facts to the Court.
Thanks to the quick action of the College and the complaint, the accused did not manage to carry out these practices, avoiding the risks that could have resulted for the health of the population. For this reason, the facts remained at the attempt stage.
The College of Physicians of the province has thanked citizen collaboration, which alerted to a suspicious advertisement in Caleta de Fuste, on the island of Fuerteventura, where these services were advertised in a beauty salon, for which medical qualifications are required and which were not available.
The accused has been convicted, in a final judgment, to the penalty of three months in prison as the perpetrator of a crime of intrusion in the attempt stage. In defense of the population's health, the College has recalled the importance of checking in the Official Doctor Finder of the province whether a person is registered and holds the qualifying degree for the practice of medicine.
Likewise, it is necessary to verify that the center and the facilities where aesthetic medicine treatments are offered are duly authorized for their practice by the Health Authority (Ministry of Health – Canarian Health Service).
