Three Lanzarote restaurants have been awarded the characteristic Sun of the Repsol Guide 2023. The award was presented this Monday in Alicante, at a gala that brought together the best chefs on the current scene. The prestigious gastronomic award once again awarded a Repsol Sun to El Risco (Caleta de Famara-Teguise), Isla de Lobos (Playa Blanca-Yaiza) and Kamezi (Playa Blanca-Yaiza).

As head chef, Silvia Abril directed the gala from a stage turned into a kitchen. "I have set up a kitchen, by the way, so that you feel at home," said the presenter to the nominees. Abril tried to turn the awards into an immersive experience in which the chefs were to be, for one night, the diners.

The gala tried to take a tour of the corners of Spain through the winners of the Repsol Guide. "There are many chefs, especially very young ones, who are returning to their villages, taking the recipe book of their grandparents and reinventing themselves," advanced the director of the Repsol Guide, María Ritter. The event brought together 250 people linked to the world of cooking, from chefs, head waiters or sommeliers.

After reviewing the new trends in cooking, the actress Silvia Abril announced the winners. The awards are divided into three categories from least to most relevant: one Sun, two Suns and three Repsol Suns. The road begins with one Sun and ends with the classification as the best restaurant in the country through the three Suns award.

In the first part of the gala, the winners of one Sun of the Repsol Guide were announced, destined for those restaurants recognized for the quality and variety of their dishes. In this category, the three Lanzarote venues were awarded. According to the criteria followed to award the restaurants, two Suns are those that stand out for developing a concept of maturity in the kitchen. To conclude, the qualification of three Suns is the jackpot, in which maturity is mimicked with a unique experience.

In total, 713 suns were distributed throughout the country: 505 in the one Sun category, 163 in two Suns and 43 in three Suns. Only four of the eight Canary Islands received a distinction in the prestigious Repsol awards. Lanzarote shares space with restaurants in Tenerife, Gran Canaria or La Palma.

In addition to the winners in the Suns, the Repsol Guide 2023 reserves a section of recommendations. This list includes fourteen more restaurants in Lanzarote: Aguaviva (Playa Honda), Alarz Bahía Club (Arrecife), Bodega de Uga (Yaiza), Brisa Marina (Playa Blanca), Castillo de San José (Arrecife), Coentro (Playa Blanca), Dunas de Famara (Caleta de Famara), Kaori (Tías), La Bodega de Santiago (Yaiza), La Cascada Steak House (Tías), Liken (Playa Blanca), Lilium (Arrecife), SeBE (Teguise) and Tacande (Haría). In total, the Repsol Guide 2023 recommended 80 restaurants spread throughout the Canary Islands.

All the winners can be found in the Repsol Guide 2023.
