Since last year, the young people of Lanzarote have had a new training opportunity in a sector that, in the Canary Islands, accounts for 21% of jobs.
This is Creamos Oportunidades en Hostelería y Turismo, a training program promoted by Fundación Mahou San Miguel, in collaboration with Fundación Martínez Abolafio on this island, an entity that works to improve education, vocational training and the labor insertion of the active population, with a special focus on groups at risk of social exclusion.
Extraordinary enrollment will be available during the month of September
Creamos Oportunidades is taught at the Centro Integrado de Formación Profesional Zonzamas, in Arrecife, with the aim of professionalizing and generating new employment opportunities for young people in this field. Currently, its extraordinary enrollment phase is open and will be available throughout the month of September.
The training program of Fundación Mahou San Miguel and Fundación Martínez Abolafio is taught within the intermediate-level training cycle in Restaurant Services, where students acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge to carry out internships in one of the collaborating hotel establishments of the program in Lanzarote. With them, it is intended that students can put into practice the skills and teachings acquired in the training center and continue learning the trade in a real work environment. The Foundation is also responsible for accompanying the centers in the search for internships and, in their subsequent labor insertion, training company tutors and mobilizing collaborating restaurateurs on the island.
The educational methodology of the Creamos Oportunidades en Hostelería y Turismo program combines theoretical and practical training to ensure that students not only acquire the necessary knowledge to achieve excellence in the profession, but also the social skills and competencies, as well as specific training in beer culture, which is required for service to the public. The implementation of this methodology has achieved an excellent percentage of employability for its students, also favored by the personalized monitoring of the program.
The FP modality of this program achieves a labor insertion of 90%.
During the course, students receive personalized accompaniment from expert counselors who guide and advise them to reduce school dropout. In Lanzarote, it is carried out in collaboration with Fundación ADSIS, a non-profit entity that works to offer opportunities to people in vulnerable situations, with a special focus on young people.
Virginia Luca de Tena, director of Fundación Mahou San Miguel, highlights the importance of collaboration between associations to offer the best accompaniment to students during training. "For us, it is essential that students feel that they are starting a path of personal and professional growth in which they will not be alone, because they can count on our support and personalized monitoring to make the transition to the world of work easier," she explains.
For her part, Katy Martínez Mpanga, president of Fundación Martínez Abolafio, points out the Foundation's commitment to promoting training as a way to encourage the professionalization and permanence of young people on the island. "We are committed to the sustainability of the island, which involves guaranteeing generational replacement in the restaurant and gastronomy sector. It is one of our hallmarks along with the landscape. And we need to transform the sector to make it more attractive to young people and activate and retain talent."
"In this sense, it is essential to bet on excellent and motivating training, work on transversal skills, accompany young people, as well as greater collaboration between public and third sector entities, educational and training centers, and restaurateurs," explains Katy Martínez Mpanga.
In addition, beyond the supervision during the training phase, Fundación Mahou San Miguel strives to offer continuous support to students through Linkados. This community of former students allows not only graduates of the program to maintain contact with each other and have support in their professional development, but also to stay informed about all the news in the sector. Through Linkados, participants have access to updated training, scholarships to continue training and specializing, important events and job opportunities.
In this context, the director of Fundación Mahou San Miguel highlights that "a continued accompaniment in which young people feel safe facilitates communication and reduces school dropout. With Linkados, we seek to be close and continue giving them employment opportunities so that they can forge a successful career in a sector with a great weight in our country."
The Creamos Oportunidades en Hostelería y Turismo program has more than a decade of experience training students from all over Spain and thanks to its pioneering training and its collaboration with social entities that contribute to the monitoring and advising of students, it has achieved excellent figures of labor insertion for its students, which reach 90% in the case of Vocational Training.
