The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its Inclusive Training and Employment Area, closed the Active Youth program this Tuesday, aimed at unemployed young people between 16 and 30 years old registered with the National Youth Guarantee System. During the event, accreditations and certifications were presented to the project participants.
The program was developed at the Experimental Agricultural Farm and the Lanzarote Agricultural Biodiversity Center (CBAL), and combined theoretical training with professional practice. Activities included land preparation, crop planting and maintenance, as well as facility repair and beautification, always under technical supervision to ensure the safety and quality of learning.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Employment and Inclusive Training, Ascensión Toledo; the Minister of Youth of the Cabildo, Aroa Revelo; and the program coordinator, María del Mar.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancor, has highlighted how this project has allowed young people to “acquire professional experience in a strategic sector for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, also contributing to the improvement and conservation of agricultural infrastructure”.
For her part, councilor Ascensión Toledo has stated that Juventud Activa "offers comprehensive training, combining theory and practice, which favors the employability of participants and their access to the labor market. With projects like this, we reaffirm our commitment to training, addressing the needs of population segments who did not complete their studies and whose talent we are betting on," she added.During the event, the program coordinator, María del Mar, indicated that the project provides young people with tools that strengthen "their personal and professional development, while also reinforcing the agricultural sector on the island."
Sustainable agricultural practices
Likewise, the students participating in Active Youth completed complementary training that included courses on **Occupational Risk Prevention** (30 hours), specific O.R.P. for **masonry** work, specialization in **palm tree** work, forklift operator, **food handler**, and handler of **phytosanitary** products (basic level), in addition to acquiring key competencies in **language, mathematics, and English**, reinforcing their professional training and job placement opportunities.
Within the framework of the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030, the project focused on sustainable agricultural practices and a circular economy. For ten and a half months, participants had a work-study contract, integrating basic knowledge, specific agricultural knowledge, and transversal skills such as occupational risk prevention, equal opportunities, environmental awareness, and digital literacy.
The program is also aimed at young people who have prematurely dropped out of their studies, offering a second chance that increases their employment opportunities and contributes to their personal and professional development, while reinforcing local development and the sustainability of the primary sector in Lanzarote.
