The pilot strike of Eurowings, the low-cost subsidiary of Lufthansa, has caused the cancellation of half of its 500 daily flights from this Monday until dawn this Wednesday, although the Lanzarote airport has not been affected since there were no flights scheduled these days.
However, for the coming weeks Eurowings has planned three weekly flights to Lanzarote from Berlin, Düsseldorf and Hamburg; and two weekly flights from Cologne and Stuttgart.
If the conflict is not resolved and new stoppages are called, the island could suffer the consequences of this strike.
The pilots are demanding better salary conditions, but the Eurowings management refuses to improve its offer because it considers that it is not economically possible. They also demand 14 more days of vacation, but the company offers 10; and a reduction of the maximum weekly working time in five hours, currently it is 55 hours, while Eurowings offers a reduction of three hours.
The airline's spokesman, Florian Gränzdörffer, explained this Wednesday to La Voz that "negotiations are continuing and that the company is awaiting feedback from the pilots' union on the proposal they have sent them".
