New historical record at Lanzarote airport: 800,000 passengers in August

The Canary Islands airports as a whole registered 4.5 million passengers in August, 9.5% more than last year.

The César Manrique Airport of Lanzarote counted almost 800,000 passengers in August, specifically 796,872 people, more than ever before in its history and 5.3% more than those who arrived in the same month last year. 

The Canary Islands airports as a whole counted a total of 4,494,584 passengers during the month of August, 9.5% more than the same month of 2023.

Of the total number of travelers registered, 4,465,570 correspond to passengers on commercial flights, of which 2,060,431 flew on domestic routes, 8.8% more than in August last year, and 2,405,139 on international routes, 9.9% more.

In addition, 39,594 aircraft movements were managed, 3.7% more than in the same month of 2023, and 2,524 tons of cargo transported were recorded, 3.1% less than in August last year.

The Gran Canaria Airport registered the highest number of passengers in August, with 1,217,366, which represents 7.8% more than in August 2023.

It is followed by the Tenerife South Airport, with 1,098,803 passengers and an increase of 14.7% compared to 2023; after the Lanzarote airport is the Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 623,204 (+10.6%); Fuerteventura, with 571,550 (+8.3%); La Palma, with 138,166 (+12.9%); El Hierro, with 35,541 (+9.3%) and La Gomera, with 13,082 (-1%).

So far this year, the Canary Islands airports have registered 34,655,263 travelers, 9.5% more than in the same period of 2023.

Of the 34,419,801 commercial passengers, 14,241,744 traveled on domestic flights, 8.8% more, and 20,178,057 did so on international flights, 10.6% more than accumulated in the same period of 2023.

From January to August 2024, 307,367 aircraft movements were managed, 7.4% more than in the past year, and 21,675 tons of cargo transported were registered, 8.1% more.
