The Arrecife Tourism Board, made up of representatives of institutions, groups, companies and professionals linked to the sector, has approved the awarding of the Arrecife City Awards 2025, which distinguish personal trajectories and initiatives that have projected the capital and Lanzarote in the tourist, sports and cultural fields.
The recognition of business and professional career will fall on Héctor Fernández Machado, CEO of Turismo Lanzarote and former Marketing professor at the Lanzarote School of Tourism, linked to the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. "Under his leadership in the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society, the island has managed to consolidate itself as one of the great European destinations, with recent strategies aimed at also attracting visitors from America and Asia," they explain from the institution.
In the category of sports career, Ambrosio José Martín Cedrés will be honored, known as Ambros Martín. Born in Arrecife and forged in the Titerroy neighborhood, the current Spanish women's handball national coach is one of the most successful coaches in the country, with four Champions in his record and international experience as coach of Romania and Russia. His hometown thus recognizes his brilliant contribution to sport.
The award for the sporting event will be given to the organization of the Lanzarote Summer Challenge, the most relevant international CrossFit tournament in Spain and one of the most important in Europe. Held in Arrecife, this event turns the city into the largest outdoor gym in the Canary Islands every summer, attracting elite athletes in a unique natural environment.
The artistic and cultural career will be distinguished in the figure of Antonio "Toni" Orosa, recently retired, who for decades has been linked to the patron saint festivities of San Ginés - declared of National Tourist Interest - and to the promotion of Lanzarote at international fairs and events. His work has made him an authentic ambassador of the island.
The Arrecife Tourism Award 2025 has been awarded to the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife (RCNA), an institution chaired by Julio Romero Ortega. The club organizes reference competitions such as the Arrecife–Agadir International Regatta, the San Ginés Regatta, the RCNA Ciudad de Arrecife Triathlon or the San Ginés Swimming Crossing. In addition, its quarry of sailors has reaped important triumphs in national and international sailing.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, congratulated the winners and highlighted that they are all a reflection of the city's talent and ability to position itself as a benchmark in the tourist, cultural and sports fields. In the same vein, the Councilor for Tourism and Sports, Eli Merino, stressed that these awards recognize "the extraordinary contribution of the distinguished people and institutions to consolidate Arrecife as an ideal destination for sports, tourism, leisure and major events."
The Arrecife City Awards 2025 ceremony will take place on the night of September 23, in the inner courtyard of La Recova, a space full of history and symbolism for the capital.
