One in five tourists who visited Lanzarote last year visited one of the island's wineries, that is, 20% of the 2,377,525 travelers that were counted that year, according to data from Turismo de Canarias.
In the rest of the Canary Islands, travelers who enjoy wine tourism do not reach 10% of their visitors. In Gran Canaria they are 9.1% of their arrivals and in Tenerife 8.5%.
Tourists who enjoy wine tourism in the Canary Islands are particularly interesting for several reasons. Among them, the percentage of those who organized their trip with a tourist package (35.6%) is 12 points lower than the average (47.8%), which allows them to spend more at the destination.
They also stay longer. If the average stay of tourists in the Canary Islands is 9.2 days, those who practice wine tourism stay on average 10.5 days.
In addition, they spend slightly less on flights and accommodation than the average tourist, but they spend 57% more on purchases around the island (1,160 euros) than the conventional tourist (666 euros).
