The Minister of Social Welfare of the Canary Islands Government, Candelaria Delgado, has announced that the next Canary Islands budget will have a specific item to cover the double insularity of retired residents in non-capital islands who participate in IMSERSO trips, whose itinerary begins in Tenerife or Gran Canaria.
During the plenary session of the Canary Islands Parliament this Tuesday, Delgado pointed out that in this way they would comply with a non-legal proposition approved in June in this regard, which required that this surcharge be assumed, since generally residents of non-capital islands must spend the night before in Tenerife or Gran Canaria to start their trip, as stated by the Nationalist deputy Mario Cabrera, during his turn to ask a question.
Thus, Delgado added that "it was the Government of Spain that withdrew an aid that was previously given" and that the budget item will counteract this refusal, since the State Executive has been asked again to take charge of the surcharge and this, according to Delgado, has indicated that the budget extension would prevent it from doing so.
In his turn, Cabrera made a call for islands such as Fuerteventura, for which he is a deputy, or Lanzarote, to have more connections with Madrid, Barcelona or Santiago and trips can start from there to prevent older people from not traveling because they cannot afford the added costs.
