Lanzarote's tourist apartments were again the most in-demand in the country in March with an occupancy rate of 88%, according to the National Institute of Statistics. The island also had the highest occupancy in Spain in January and December of last year.
However, the occupancy rate was slightly lower than in March last year when it reached 89.4%.
In the last year, tourist apartments have increased their staff in Lanzarote by 122 people, from 2,705 employees in March last year to 2,827 workers in the same month this year.
By autonomous communities, the Canary Islands was the preferred destination, with more than 2.4 million overnight stays and an increase of 9.4% compared to March 2023. It also had the highest occupancy rate, with 84.8% of the apartments offered.
The tourist spots with the highest number of overnight stays were Tías, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Arona.
In the country as a whole, overnight stays in tourist apartments increased by 18.8% in March. Those of residents increased by 40.5%, while those of non-residents grew by 12.3%. Meanwhile, the average stay decreased by 5.5%, to 5 nights per traveler.
72.8% of overnight stays were made by non-resident travelers. The United Kingdom was the main issuing market, with 29.8% of the total.
