Turismo de Canarias is participating these days in the Borsa Mediterranea del Turismo (BMT) held in Naples and in the Salon Mondial du Tourisme in Paris to continue expanding the demand quota in Italy and France, two of the countries that are most allowing the diversification of markets in the archipelago.
Both fairs, of a general nature, also bring together the professional sector, industry experts and decision-makers to buy vacation trips.
The Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, has stated: "We want to bet on European markets such as France and Italy because the desire to travel of the citizens of both countries is joined by the improvement of connectivity and the opening of new routes" with these countries.
Great growth of connectivity
This is the case, for example, of Binter, which has connections with Lille or Toulouse. And the increase in air capacity with Italy is also noteworthy, being one of the markets that has performed best after the pandemic and "this is due, in part, to the strong impulse given by airlines such as Ryanair or Wizz Air, in addition to the entry of Binter," Castilla said.
Italy, in particular, has registered an expansion of routes such as Turin, Florence or Venice. For the 2023 summer season, a 58.6% increase in air seats offered is expected, compared to the same season in 2019.
In the case of France, air capacity has also been expanded for the summer, where an increase of 61.5% is recorded compared to the same period in 2019.
The fairs in detail
The Naples fair, in its last edition, registered the presence of more than 22,000 professional visitors and 440 exhibitors, as well as 100 Italian and 70 other international buyers. In addition to the exhibition area, thematic workshops will be developed focusing on receptive tourism, congresses and incentives, social tourism and active vacations.
For its part, the Salon Mondial du Tourisme is the largest generic fair in France and on this occasion a meeting specialized in nature tourism, 'Destination Nature', is being held in parallel, so the Canarian delegation will focus the promotion on nature tourism.
