Airlines have scheduled 5.6 million seats for the summer season in Lanzarote, which is 15% more than in 2019, the year before the start of the pandemic.

In the overall calculation for the Canary Islands, airlines have scheduled 31.5 million seats for the entire summer season, which translates into a 9% increase compared to 2019.

Aena also points out that in the international market, the seat offer increases "by 13%, with more than 17.4 million seats", while in the domestic market the increase is "4%, with more than 14 million seats with destinations between Spanish airports". This represents a 17% increase in the offer with the Peninsula and a 7% decrease in the Inter-island routes.

The number of scheduled movements also increases according to Aena, by "4.5%, with just over 222,800 commercial operations". In addition, they add that the number of routes that airlines have planned in the archipelago is 644.

El Hierro, the airport with the highest increase compared to 2019

By number of scheduled seats, Gran Canaria Airport is in the lead, with 8.5 million, 3% more, followed by Tenerife South, with 7.3 million, 12% more than before the pandemic. In third place is Lanzarote, with 5.6 million seats, and after the island of Lanzarote is Fuerteventura, with a schedule of 4.4 million, 18% more than in 2019.

Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna has scheduled a total of 4.4 million seats, which is an increase of 1.5% compared to 2019, and La Palma, with more than 1,166,000 seats, registers 7.5% more. El Hierro airport is the one with the highest percentage increase compared to 2019, with 229,200 seats scheduled for the summer season, 19% more than in 2019. Finally, there is La Gomera, with 94,608 seats scheduled, which is 8.6% more than in 2019.

After Spain, the countries where airlines have offered the highest number of seats for the 2022 summer season are United Kingdom, with 7.2 million, 14.6% more than in 2019; Germany, with more than 2.97 million and an increase of 3.6%; Italy, with 998,000, which reaches 89.66% more than before the pandemic, and France, with 916,000, 48% more than in 2019. The increase in seats offered compared to 2019 in the Dutch market, with 19%, and Belgian market, with 15%, stands out.

Aena points out that the 2022 summer season lasts "one week longer than that of 2019", although the statistics are based on a typical season of 30 weeks, so the data has been adjusted "to compensate for the effect of the additional week of the 2022 summer season".

Flexible scheduling subject to change

Aena states that the general data for this 2022 summer season is positive, but "the degree of uncertainty remains high due to factors such as the evolution of the pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine or the rise in fuel prices". Therefore, they point out that the scheduling of seats and movements is always subject to changes by the airlines.

In addition, they point out that it should be taken into account that this scheduling responds "to the requests made by the companies to operate at the airports and the number of seats they offer to passengers on these flights". Therefore, it is a matter of seat and flight offer, not real traffic data, since these are not obtained until the flights are operated and their occupancy is known.
