According to the latest information released by the European Central Bank, it is the Spanish banks that grant the cheapest mortgages in the Eurozone, only behind the Maltese.

At the end of October, loans were signed in Spain at an average interest rate of 3.2%, while the average rate in the Union European is 3.5%.

After the Spanish banks, the Italian and French banks are located, which are lending at an average interest rate of 3.27%.

Next, the average for Germany and the Netherlands is 3.65% and 3.73% respectively.

The highest interest rates on the continent are found in the Baltic republics. First Estonia, where the average interest rate reaches 4.97%, second Latvia (4.86%) and Lithuania (4.76%).

Two years ago, the ECB began a series of interest rate hikes that caused the price of money to rise to 4.5%, when it had been at rates close to zero for several years.

Since October 2023, when it reached its historical maximum, it has been slowly decreasing and it is expected that next year it may be below 2%.
