According to the real estate registry statistics, 28.2% of home buyers in the Canary Islands in the third quarter of the year were foreigners. This is the third highest percentage among all autonomous communities, only behind the Balearic Islands (31.7%) and the Valencian Community (29.5%), and exceeds Murcia (24.8%), Catalonia (16.4%) and Andalusia (16%).
The national average of foreign demand for housing reached 15.4% of sales, increasing by 0.5 points compared to the previous quarter, which is the second highest result in the historical series, only surpassed by the third quarter of 2022 (15.9%).
The British are in the lead with 10.1% of sales, followed by Germans (7%), French (6.7%), Belgians (5.4%), Moroccans (5.3%) and the Italians (5.1%), are the least buyers.
On the other hand, the report of the 'Association of Registrars' states that the total sale of homes in the third quarter of the year decreased by 16.5% compared to the same period of the previous year, while the granting of mortgages for the acquisition of a house accumulates a decrease of more than 11.1%.
In the last twelve months, the average price of housing reached 1,955 euros per square meter, which represents an accumulated year-on-year increase of 1.7%, thanks to new housing (4.6%) since the used housing registered a more moderate increase of 1%.
In the specific case of September, sales fell 24.3% annually to 41,977 operations, while mortgages decreased 27.4% to 30,850 operations.
