The Castle of San José hosted this Monday the Rating Act of the 2024 Vintage of Lanzarote Wines, in which the rating of “very good” was awarded to the harvest. The assessment was issued by the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin, after the evaluation of 25 wines by a tasting committee composed of nine experts.
For the rating of the 2024 vintage, the tasting committee, formed by 9 experts, assessed a total of 25 wines from the Denomination of Origin Vinos de Lanzarote, from different wineries on the island. Among them were: 16 dry whites, four rosés, three reds, one semi-sweet white and one sweet white. Once tasted and analyzed, the sum and calculation of the average were carried out, with the final result of 13 points. This figure corresponds to the rating of “Very good” according to the valuation system applied by the Regulatory Council.
The event, which brought together representatives of the wine sector, institutions and specialized media, also included a presentation by the analyst Rafael del Rey, who addressed the challenges and opportunities of the wine market in a context of global transformation.
After the talk, Darío Pérez, Technician of the Regulatory Council, focused on explaining the fundamental features of the vintage. The 2024 harvest was marked by exceptional climatic conditions. From November 2024 to February 2025, the island recorded rainfall well below the average, accumulating barely 80.6 liters.
The joint effort of 1,861 winegrowers allowed to work more than 1,900 hectares, reaching a production of 1,380,245 kilograms of grapes. The predominant variety continues to be Volcanic Malvasia, representing 72% of the total production that entered the wineries. Other varieties that were harvested were: Listán Negro (10%), Listán Blanco (4.5%), Diego (5%), Moscatel de Alejandría (3%) and Syrah (2%).
The event concluded with a tasting of wines from the island, paired with local products. The president of the Regulatory Council, Jorge Rodríguez, expressed his gratitude to winegrowers, winemakers and collaborating entities: “Without the commitment and daily work of our winegrowers, this celebration would not be possible. I am confident that we will continue to join efforts to strengthen the national and international projection of our wines.”
