Daniela Pistininzi arrived in Lanzarote from Bologna seven years ago and fell in love with the island's quality of life.
In an interview with the radio program of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero Más de Uno Gourmet, Pistininzi explains how four years ago she opened 'Mi Niña', a tribute to the affectionate nickname she always received from the people of Lanzarote, a business that treasures the know-how of 45 years of experience in charge of a bakery in Italy.
- How did you get to settle in Lanzarote?
I am from Italy, my city is Bologna. I came on vacation seven years ago, I liked it and I decided to move. I spent a few months working for someone else until I spoke with my parents to set up my own project.
- And you convinced them to move here too?
Yes, we opened the cafeteria together 4 years ago. My parents had a bakery in Italy with 45 years of experience.
- Why is it called 'Mi Niña'?
Because of the Canarians. When I worked first in a restaurant and then in the markets, everyone called me "mi niña" so I decided to call the cafeteria that, so that it is not only Italian, but also Canarian.
- What can we find in your cafeteria?
The basis is that everything is made with love and tradition. It's my parents and me. Our forte is pizza and focaccia, which my dad makes, who has a very good hand. People who try it say it's wonderful.
We also have pastries, cakes and sponge cakes. Many pastafrolla products, typical of Italy, but also of Argentina and Uruguay. In addition, we have artisan bread.
My mom makes croquettes and Spanish omelet, and from Italy, dishes like lasagna, parmigiana and things like that.

- Are all the products handmade?
Yes, totally. We use raw materials of Italian and Spanish origin. We try to bring the two cultures together and include typical flavors from here as well. The fruit and vegetables are from Lanzarote.
- What is your star dish?
The pizza. There is none like it in Lanzarote. People are amazed by the onion and cheese pizza. It is super spongy.
- What are the cafeteria hours?
We are open every day from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. On weekends until 1:30 p.m. This month we are also in Navilan so in the afternoon we are closing a little earlier.
- What products do you have in Navilan?
Pastries and Christmas things, pastafrolla, sponge cakes, panettone and soon roscos de Reyes.
- What coffee is served?
I use Arissto coffee. It is a coffee that arrived recently, very similar to Borbone, with that sweet taste and that cream that for me is wonderful.
We have mainly entered with coffee. People came in, tried it and felt it was good.
- Where is the cafeteria?
In Canalejas street number 17 of Arrecife.
