The sales season, which will take place between the months of January and February, will increase hiring in the Canary Islands by 5.5%, which means 1,608 contracts, slightly above those in 2021 (1,525).
By provinces, in Las Palmas they will increase by 5%, up to 857 contracts; while in Santa Cruz de Tenerife the increase will be 6%, up to 750.
The study of this campaign, carried out by Adecco, foresees more than 176,000 contracts signed for 2022 in the country as a whole, compared to 164,055 contracts last year 2021 in the same commercial period. In this way, the recovery trend that began during the 'Black Friday' and Christmas 2021 campaign continues.
Electronic commerce
Since the pandemic began, changes in buyers' habits have also modified job offers and hiring is now focused on profiles related to electronic commerce.
Companies will hire staff dedicated to the distribution and preparation of shipments between January and February, such as packers, warehouse workers, forklift operators or last mile workers.
Despite the fact that electronic commerce will be the protagonist of the sales season, according to Adecco's estimates, physical commerce will also require personnel for that period, although the volume of hiring will be lower than in the past.
The profiles demanded by physical stores correspond to commercial promoters, store assistants, cashiers, and personnel for perfumery, toy stores, cosmetics or electronics. Customer service or sales force areas will also be reinforced.
Catalonia, leader in number of contracts
Adecco's forecasts contemplate an increase in hiring in all autonomous communities, with increases of between 4% and 10% compared to the 2021 sales campaign, when there were still restrictions on mobility, hours and capacity.
Catalonia will lead hiring in absolute figures, with the signing of nearly 28,100 contracts, 9.6% more than in January 2021. The Valencian Community will occupy second place, with more than 24,800 jobs created for the sales season.
In Madrid, some 24,570 contracts will be signed. Although the figure is lower than expected in Catalonia and the Valencian Community, it will be the autonomous community in which hiring will grow the most, 10% more than in 2021.
Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Madrid, Murcia and Andalusia will concentrate 69% of the employment generated during this 2022 campaign in the sales season.
The autonomous communities in which the least employment is expected to be created during the 2022 sales are the Balearic Islands, with the signing of 394 contracts, 4% more than in 2021, and Extremadura, with 579 new jobs, 5.7% more.
