The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote approved in its session this Monday morning, November 17, the signing of the collaboration agreements with the seven town councils on the island for the implementation of the Employment Generation Programs 2025-2026, endowed with a global investment of 1,600,000 euros.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, valued the approval of these agreements as "a decisive boost for opportunities to reach all municipalities on the island." "The Cabildo is once again committed to useful policies that generate real employment and improve citizens' quality of life," he pointed out.

Betancort added that "these agreements allow us to strengthen municipal services, maintain public spaces, and offer many people an opportunity to re-engage with the labor market. With this investment, we are moving towards a fairer, more balanced, and more cohesive Lanzarote."

The Minister of Employment, Jesús Machín, explained that these projects incorporate for the first time a mandatory training itinerary for participants, improving their future employability. “We are talking about direct employment, but also about training and support. We want those who participate in these programs to leave with more tools to access stable employment,” insisted the minister.

"Furthermore, up to 30% of contracts will be reserved for people in vulnerable situations, because our priority is that no one is left behind," Machín stated.

These agreements will allow municipalities to hire unemployed individuals and carry out works and services of general and social interest, thus reinforcing the provision of public services and contributing to the improvement of urban and rural environments. The projects will have a maximum execution period of six months and must begin before March 1, 2026.

The economic distribution will be carried out by allocating a fixed 50,000 euros to each town hall, while 1,250,000 euros will be distributed proportionally to the number of registered unemployed people in each municipality as of June 30, 2024, according to OBECAN data.

Municipalities will have ten business days after signing the agreement to submit their projects and technical reports.
