Remote Work from the Beach

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, a large number of things have changed, such as the way people work, not only in Spain, but also in other parts of the world. Teleworking in companies continues to increase progressively and, according to forecasts, demand will increase by 30% in the next seven years. At which point Generation Z will already begin to be part of the job pool.

It is increasingly common to find remote job offers, which has led to other sectors being favored. The option of home office or coworking is starting to be a favorite of many freelancers, self-employed and employees, however, not all sites are among the favorites. It is worth noting the growing interest of European professionals in working on the coast of Spain.

The Spanish coast favors teleworking

If there is one thing our country can boast about, it is a privileged strategic situation, for this reason, we have an excellent climate throughout the year. Today, many workers only need a laptop and a mobile device to work, so mobility is much easier. This has determined that they value moving to a beach area for its quality of life.

This is an important factor to take into account, because the demand for homes for sale and rent has increased and the economy has been reactivated in these coastal areas. Teleworking not only favors employee flexibility and allows the employer to save money, but its impact is very positive, because it boosts real estate investment and tourism.

Initially, one of the major concerns of companies was whether working from the beach or even the vacation spot itself could affect labor productivity. However, recent surveys assure that 9 out of 10 workers indicate that their performance is higher.

Today, one of the main obstacles and challenges is that the beach does not always present the best conditions due to the lack of infrastructure and the low speed of the internet. Connections in these places are usually more unstable than in the city or a workplace. Even fiber or cable offer worse results, because the tendency to saturation is very common.

On the other hand, it is necessary that the infrastructure and services adapt to the new needs of workers in the beach areas. In this sense, the Government of Spain, together with local administrations, must seek measures to promote this type of work from coastal areas. This would help to continue attracting more professionals and promote economic development.

In short, teleworking is here to stay and this is an opportunity for the coastal cities of the country. This labor model tends to consolidate over time, so it is time to have a vision of the future and start improving the infrastructure to guarantee a quality service.
