Used cars cost less than a year ago in the Canary Islands

Prices fell more in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura than in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The average price of used cars fell in the Canary Islands by 1.4% in May compared to the same month of 2024, and stood at 11,903 euros.

In the national total, used cars were paid at 12,906, 0.8% more expensive than in May 2024, and grew 1.9% in relation to April 2025 in the islands, contrary to the country as a whole, where it fell 1.1%, according to data released by the National Association of Vehicle Dealers (Ancove).

The segment of more than 8 years has had an average price of 9,112 euros in May in the Canary Islands, which represents a 7% year-on-year increase, while at the national level the price was 10,304 euros, 3.9% more.

Compared to the previous month, the cost of used cars increased in the Canary Islands by 1.4% and in the national average it rose by a tenth, being the leading segment of the market representing 62.3% of the total used car market in the Canary Islands, compared to 63.5% nationally.

By provinces, Ancove points out in a statement that cars became 0.4% more expensive in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in May and 2.9% cheaper in Las Palmas.

Nationally, used cars became 0.8% more expensive year-on-year in May, moderating the increases of previous months and placing themselves again below 13,000 euros, with an average price of 12,906 euros.

In monthly terms, compared to April 2025, used car sales decreased by 1.1%.

In the first five months, with a total of 876,679 cars sold, the average cost is 12,927 euros, compared to 12,834 in the same period last year, which shows an increase of 0.7% in Spain.

In the segment of cars over 8 years old, the price stood at 10,304 euros in May, with a year-on-year increase of 3.9%, while in monthly terms, there is an increase of one tenth compared to last April.

Of the 174,198 used cars transferred last month, 63.5% were more than 8 years old, with a new increase in reference to the previous month.
