Unemployment continues to rise in Lanzarote, which has reached 18,390 unemployed. Specifically, according to figures from the Canarian Employment Observatory published in the Cabildo Data Center, the island closed November with 415 more unemployed than the previous month, which represents an increase of 2.3%.
Thus, the eleventh month of the year ended in Lanzarote with the worst unemployment figures recorded in this 2020. In addition, Lanzarote has 59% more unemployed than a year ago, since in November 2019 there were 11,566 unemployed on the island.
Unemployment has grown in all the municipalities of Lanzarote, with the largest increase being recorded in Arrecife, where unemployment has increased by 208 people, from 9,146 to 9,354. The capital is followed by Yaiza, which ended November with 2,057 unemployed, 100 more than the previous month.
Haría had 536 unemployed at the end of November, 17 more than in October, while in San Bartolomé the number of unemployed rose by 29 people, ending the month with 1,981 unemployed. For its part, Teguise closed November with 1,760 unemployed, 17 more than the previous month; Tías did so with 2,079, 23 more than in October; and Tinajo ended November with 623 unemployed, 21 more than the previous month.
In the Canary Islands as a whole, unemployment also rose in November, specifically by 2.2%. The archipelago closed the month with 268,319 unemployed, 5,832 more than in October. In the year-on-year comparison, the growth is 27.23%, with the Canary Islands having 57,426 more unemployed than in November 2019.
